When is the new iPhone 15 coming out?

You’ll be able to get hold of it very soon.

During a live streamed announcement on September 12, Apple revealed all the details about it’s new iPhones.

As well as launching the iPhone 15, details of the Apple Watch 9 were revealed, and Apple also shared how it is making a move to more sustainable technology options.

As Apple reveals it has faced its longest drop in sales for the iPhone, it’s hoped the new iPhone 15 may reverse its fortunes.

Key iPhone 15 dates

After the Apple launch date, we now have confirmed dates.

  • iPhone 15 pre-order: From 1pm on September 15, 2023
  • iPhone 15 release date: September 22, 2023

Our resident iPhone expert, John McCann, predicted these dates a few weeks prior to the official announcement.

“iPhone announcements almost always take place on a Tuesday or Wednesday, with pre-orders opening on the Friday of that week and the new iPhones physically hitting stores on the Friday of the following week.,” he said.

If you missed Apple’s ‘Wonderlust’ that was streamed live on September 12, 2023, you can re-watch the iPhone 15 launch to see exactly what this new iteration has to offer.

While there have been some rumours that there may be shortages when it comes to the iPhone Pro 15 model, thanks in part to its new larger screen, Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC) has said that any issues have now been resolved, meaning there should be no delays to any of the iPhone 15 models being launched.

What will the iPhone 15 include?

Here’s what to expect from the iPhone 15

New colours

The iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 plus will be available in five new colours – yellow, green, blue, black and pink. Perhaps Apple has been inspired by the recent success of the Barbie movie with that last shade?

A new mysterious button

The new iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max comes equipped with a new button on its side.

By default, it still handles your silent and ring modes – but here’s the exciting part: the button is programmable, ready to perform a multitude of tasks at your command. Want to capture some sudden inspiration? Just program it to start a voice memo. In the mood for photography? One tap launches the camera app.

A USB-C port

One of the biggest changes for this model is that it will now come with a new charger. Older iPhones use Lightning cables, which are tailored to Apple products. The new charger, a USB-C, on the other hand, is more widely used and can charge a variety of devices, including laptops, tablets and cameras.

A directive from the European Union, sanctioned in 2022, mandates that Apple must integrate USB-C ports into its phones if it intends to continue selling them within the EU. Not only will it make it easier to charge all devices, it could also help reduce waste, as consumers will no longer need to purchase separate chargers for each device.

A better camera

The iPhone 15 features a new 48-megapixel rear camera, which is the highest-resolution camera ever integrated into an iPhone. It means better low-light performance and more detail in photos. It also has a new 2x Telephoto option to give users a total of three optical zoom levels — it’s literally like having a third camera.

There’s also another camera upgrade. Instead of having to choose Portrait mode, when snapping photos, the iPhone 15 will now automatically recognise when a person (or even a dog or cat) is in frame and capture depth information so the images can be turned into Portrait photos later on.

Our in-depth article on the iPhone 15’s new features offers more detail on what to expect with this new release.

How much will the iPhone 15 cost?

There’s a surprising price cut

The price for the iPhone 15 starts at £799, while the 15 Plus starts from just £899 – both of which are £50 less than the iPhone 14 as at launch.

With all the additional features that the iPhone 15 Pro has, it comes in at more expensive, starting from £999 for the 128GB model, however, that’s still £100 cheaper than the iPhone 14 Pro was at launch last year.

And finally, the iPhone Pro Pro Max will be available from £1,199.

All phones can be pre-ordered from 1pm on September 15 and, of course, all iPhones will also be available on monthly plans via mobile phone providers.
