Hetty Quick review

Is the Hetty Quick cordless vacuum a good addition to the Henry brand of cleaners?

The Hetty Quick is a cordless stick vacuum that stands alongside the Henry Quick equivalent, only in a pink finish.

Hetty is a very good vacuum from the well-respected British brand, Numatic. Crucially, this and the Henry Quick are the company’s first cordless stick vacuums, following on from its very popular drag-along style corded cleaners. Known for reliability, this brand has taken that and applied it to a lighter, more mobile version in the Henry Quick and Hetty Quick.

Unlike most other cordless stick vacuums, this model uses throw-away dust bags. This does mean an ongoing cost but it also lets you dispose of dust, dander and allergens in a sealed bag as opposed to shaking out into the bin and releasing them back into your home, as most of the competition does.

So does this premium vacuum with a price that undercuts a lot of the competition keep up when it comes to suction power, ease of use, battery life and more? Find out all you need to know below.

Hetty Quick Review method

How we test

While we received the pink Hetty Quick for review, aside from the colour this model is identical to the red Henry Quick, which means our review will give you the information you need, no matter which of the two you’re considering.

When we review vacuum cleaners, we do so across a range of scenarios and testing types. That includes rigorous and specific tests in our lab, before testing in real-world situations at home over a longer period.

Vacuums are tested across a range of flooring types to assess how performance varies in different situations, from hard and carpet floors to stairs, cars and more.

We tested the Hetty Quick on a variety of different floor types, including vinyl

Battery life is also an important testing point when it comes to cordless stick vacuums. Run times are measured across rooms, floors and entire properties. We also measure how a single charge lasts and how long it takes to recharge.

Suction is an important metric. Vacuums are tested using coarse and fine materials, including sand, dust, hair and more. How it picks these up across various surfaces, from crevices, around edges, and coming from various angles, are all taken into testing consideration.

Bin capacity is another area we look at. In the case of stick vacuums, that means how much they can store in an onboard bin and how far you can get before you have to empty it.

Hetty Quick Design

Solidly built

The Hetty Quick is certainly compact with its cordless stick design but it isn’t the lightest, weighing in at 3.25kg. That said, it’s also not the heaviest despite having one of the largest capacities in the dust bin at a full litre. So while you won’t need to stop as often to empty this vacuum, or to charge it because battery life is excellent too, you will have a little more weight than some other models.

This has that classic Henry vacuum feel, meaning it’s strong and the head moves in a predictable way that’s very simple to get the hang of. But once you stop and perhaps want to lean this against a wall while you adjust a rug, it will mean some effort to balance as it won’t stand freely and doesn’t have any rubber to grip when leaned against a wall. Not ideal.

The Hetty Quick is a solidly built cordless vacuum, but this does mean it’s also a little bit weightier than other cordless vacuums out there

This does come with a wall mount, meaning you can hang it away conveniently and without taking up much space. It also makes charging as easy as sliding this into the dock, plugging in the charger and leaving.

The plastic material isn’t the most premium but it is very solid which leaves you feeling like you don’t need to be gentle with this vacuum and it will still keep up, without damage.

Hetty Quick Ease of use

Not the most straightforward at times

The Hetty Quick is easy to set up from the box, with just two clicks and a battery charge required before you can start vacuuming right away. However, changing this setup isn’t the most straightforward.

The brush head isn’t the easiest to remove but it works across both carpets and hard floors, so changing it may not be something you need to do often. However, should you wish to attach a different head, like the slim nozzle to make this a handheld, you may find it takes some strength – making this less appealing to anyone with finger strength or wrist issues.

The Hetty Quick comes with an easy-to-use control system

There’s no trigger here but rather a simple on and off button, which makes the comfortable handle all the more easy to use. You also have a button to enter a boost powerful suction mode and a button to switch the roller brush on and off, making the transition from hard floors to carpets or rugs very easy. Plus there’s an LED headlight to help highlight dirt even in darker areas.

Emptying the bin is super simple as everything is kept in the bag which can be slid right into your waste bin without any mess at all. That means not only is your home kept free of dust and allergens but also the vacuum stays very clean with little to no need to think about cleaning.

Hetty Quick Performance

Decent suction power

When it comes to raw suction power, the Hetty Quick did a good job of performing admirably with 87% of debris picked up in our lab tests in standard mode and a massive 96% sucked up in boost mode on Arran carpets.

When tested on thicker deep pile carpets it did even better with 94% sucked up in standard mode and 97% in boost mode. In both cases there was an issue of the head pushing larger debris forward and requiring a few passes to capture them – like Cheerios, for example.

When it came to hair, the vacuum managed to suck it up – occasionally flattening it on first pass – but very little made it to the bin. Instead, a lot of the hair was found on the brush head roller. While this was stuck, the ability to clear that off was relatively easy by sliding to the end and removing.

In our ground coffee granules test, the Hetty did a decent job of picking up from vinyl edges as well as across the front edge but it did struggle more when going over crevices, such as between tiles.

That said, boost mode did help to ensure the grounds were taken up even from the crevices. In all cases there were a few particles that dropped from the head when it was lifted off the ground.

The top button which turns on and off the roller was very helpful as that made transitioning between rugs, carpets, wood and tile floors simple without the need to stop.

While hair and wool did get stuck around the brush head, it was relatively easy to remove

The head itself could be a little wider, though, and does mean you may need a few more passes with this versus a lot of the competition. However, it is relatively low so you can access under low units easily – although there is that top-heavy weight in the handle which you notice more at acute angles.

Emptying the dust bag pods could not be easier, with a simple lever pull and then these slide into your dustbin. Slide in a new pod bag and you’re ready to get going again. And with a full litre per bag, you likely won’t need to do this more than once every three or four home cleans in an average three bed house.

Hetty Quick Battery life

Impressive run-time

When it comes to battery performance, the Hetty Quick really does a fantastic job. The company says you will get 70 minutes on a single charge when used in standard power mode. Or go for boost mode and it will run out in just 16 minutes.

In our real world testing, the results were impressive with a massive 75 minutes on a charge. It’s rare that a product lasts longer than the manufacturer suggests it can, but the Hetty Quick stands out in that regard. Then plug in and you’re charged back up to full in two hours and 15 minutes.

The battery slots easily into the handle of the Hetty Quick

Crucially, though, the batteries can be popped out meaning you can own more than one and double your runtime. However, unless you only use boost mode or have a very large property, most people should be fine on a single battery.

Hetty Quick Value

Remember to factor in bag costs

At the time of publishing, the Hetty Quick is priced at £250 – down from its initial price of £300. This helps it to undercut a lot of the competition making it very good value for money – especially when you consider you probably won’t need to buy a second battery.

Where this falls down a little on value is ongoing costs. Since you will need to buy those pod dust bags quite regularly, this will cost you in the longer term. A set of 10 Quick Filter Pods are priced at £12.99. You can then also add scents at £9.99 for a pack of 10.

Based on the bag capacity, and depending on how much cleaning you do, you will likely only need a new pod once or twice a month, meaning the annual costs could be as low as £20.

It’s also worth taking into consideration that the Hetty Quick comes with a reassuringly long two-year warranty – from a brand that is well known for its reliable products.

Hetty Quick Competition

Other smaller cordless vacuums to consider

This vacuum undercuts a lot of the competition on price and does offer that quite unique bag collection, which is tough to find in smaller handheld models of this style. The addition of the scent pods also helps this stand out from many other models. But there are alternatives you may want to consider.

Go for a premium option in the Shark Stratos IZ400UK if you want top-end features and pet hair specific vacuuming. The anti-wrap tech keeps the hair in the dust bin rather than on the heads, unlike the Hetty Quick. This, like Hetty, also offers that air freshener feature to make your home smell better.

Hetty Quick Final verdict

A great choice for allergy sufferers

The Hetty Quick is an affordable way to get a stick style cordless vacuum that offers plenty of suction power and a do-it-all head, which works well across hard floors and rugs alike. This is also the best cordless vacuum for anyone that wants to ensure sucked up dust, dander and allergens are all kept inside the disposable bags.

While this does mean an ongoing cost, it is minimal and ensures the cleanest home as well as an easy-to-maintain vacuum.

While battery life is impressive on the Hetty Quick, this is on a relatively weighty model when compared to some of the competition. If you have wrist issues, you may need to try before you decide to buy.

There are only two suction modes and changing heads could be easier but if you want the simplicity of a grab and go vacuum that works hard and lasts, this could be the one for you.
